Over the weekend Petersfield’s restaurants, bars and coffee shops joined forces with dozens of local food producers for the Town’s annual culinary festival – designed to celebrate the fabulously diverse range of food the Town has to offer.
This year the Festival returned to the Town Centre and was crammed with food stalls from Hampshire’s producers serving the best artisan breads, homemade cakes and preserves, delicious sauces, organic meats and sweet delights.
It was a time for the whole family to roll up their sleeves and enjoy a whole host of live cooking demonstrations, talks and live music.
The most delicious weekend didn’t stop there. Locals were able to taste the many gastronomic delights on offer cooked and supplied by local restaurateurs and chefs and presented as street food. Visitors were able to munch their way around the world such was the variety of foods stalls available along the High Street
The global route could take you from Indian curry sauces, to Italian pizza and pasta, Mediterranean ingredients, Spanish paella, Thai, Caribbean and Mexican flavourful cuisines, and that’s just for starters. There were wines from Chile, Australia, South Africa and California, and ciders from France and Somersetand locally brewed beers.
During festival week local restaurants and bars were invited to offer special festival menus, discounts, and great meal deals. Chefs from The Black Sheep and Cafe Mezzo took part in our Cook-off Challenge on stage on Sunday.
Slow Food Solent re-launched its activities at the Food Festival after a period of re-organisation with lots of activities, talks and cooking demos, plus the Slow Food Kids ‘Taste Adventure’, a fun and interactive activity which brings the senses to life.
The Petersfield Food Awards were held on Sunday 15th June on stage in the Town Square – congratulations to all our winners!
